Media Representations:
How is family represented in the film?

The family are represented as mainstream and middle-class background. This is because there is no connotation of the family being rich or poor therefore if applying this to Dyer's lines of appeal it could be said that these people fit within the 'happy families' category. Furthermore, their household is a regular home with normal everyday items and the main example of middle class is the protagonist (husband) who is dressed in a black smart shirt which creates a suggestion that he either works at an office job like or managerial position. The main representation of the family is that the male character is 'the leader' of the family because he is the one driving the car which is a common stereotype in the current world which this applies to Perkins theory that suggests this is often true.

In addition to this, even though the male is presented as dominant he would also be expected to be 'the saviour' of the family however this advertisement takes a different approach and displays the daughter and wife as being the ones who save the man and conclusively representing a counter stereotype. To add to this, the daughter is seen wearing pink fairy wings which are a clear representation of light and hope. A fairy is known to exchange a tooth for a coin and I believe it is the same ideology but instead she is exchanging her hands for her fathers life and she is represented as 'the rescuer' in this advert.

Also, the daughter and wife are displayed as protective towards the husband. We see this when the man's facial expression changes and both of them reach towards him to try and save him. They both are seen interlocking their hands and fingers to propose the idea of the hands being seatbelts. Once the man goes back to his seating position and the car crash is over, they family begin to smile which shows a sign of appreciation towards each other which was mainly done because they wanted to present what a typical family looks like however this is not always the case.
